The 2024 Taiwan PGA Tour officially kicked off on March 27 with the Chau-Shi Series opening event, the Chang Wah Open, at Hsin Yi Golf Club in Kaohsiung. This event marks the first of eight tournaments in the Chau-Shi Series, which has been part of the TPGA Tour since 2021. The tournament will be contested over four rounds and 72 holes from March 27 to 30. The total prize pool is NT$3 million, with the champion set to receive NT$500,000. A field of 144 players will compete, including 141 professional golfers from 8 countries and 3 amateur players.

The Series is personally sponsored by Mr. Chau-Shi Wong, the Honorary Chairman of Mercuries & Associates Holding, Ltd. This marks the third year that CWE Group has served as the title sponsor for the individual event. The tournament is organized by TPGA and co-hosted by Hsin Yi Golf Club.

This year's TPGA Tour marks a significant departure from previous editions, as the TPGA, in compliance with Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) requirements, opened the qualifying tournament to foreign players, amateur golfers, and amateur trainees. The qualifying event, which concluded at the end of January, determined the top 40 players who earned full tour cards for the 2024 season. As a result, this year's tournaments will feature a significant number of international players, raising the overall level of competition.

This tournament features 25 international players from seven countries - Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, and Thailand - along with 116 professional golfers from Taiwan.

On the 26th, a pre-event 18-hole Pro-Am match was held, pairing 25 professional players with over 70 amateur golfers. The match followed the scramble format, with professional golfer Kai-Jen Tsai and three amateur players clinching the championship. The team finished with a total of 61 strokes, 11 under par. Each of the amateur players was awarded a YAMAHA Inpres RMX utility club (valued at NT$13,500) as a prize.

That evening, a prize-giving dinner for the Pro-Am match was held at Hsin Yi Golf Club, where the organizers prepared numerous prizes for a lucky draw. Fu-Chiang Shui, CEO of Fu Yi Enterprise Co., Ltd., generously added two exquisite 24K gold wedges (valued at NT$12,800 each) as special lucky draw prizes.

CWE Chairman Chuen-Sing Hung stated that this marks the third consecutive year the CWE Group has served as the title sponsor of the golf tournament. He also represented the Group in signing an agreement with TPGA to continue sponsoring the event for the next three years. Canon Huang, Chairman of CWE Group, acted as the witness to the signing.

CWE Group Chairman Canon Huang remarked that the past three years have passed quickly, and he is excited to extend the sponsorship agreement for another three years. He expressed his optimism for a smooth and successful year ahead. Chairman Chuen-Sing Hung highlighted that professional golf demands both focus and composure. He is delighted to see the growing number of young Taiwanese players rising to the challenge of competing on the Asian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, and PGA Tour. He also hopes that more business leaders will step forward to support the sport through advertising sponsorships and tournament organization.

With 35 years of history, CWE Group has consistently supported domestic sports events, dedicating its resources and embracing the corporate value of giving back to society in return for the support it has received. The Company remains committed to advancing the sport of golf and upholding its corporate social responsibility through charitable initiatives and active community involvement.

The Chau-Shi Series is sponsored by Mr. Chau-Shi Wong, one of the founders of Mercuries & Associates, Ltd., and the Honorary Chairman of Mercuries & Associates Holding, Ltd. Since 2021, the pandemic has led to a significant reduction in both the number of tournaments and the total prize money for the TPGA Tour. In light of this, Mr. Wong personally stepped in as the title sponsor, generously supporting six tournaments with NT$2 million in sponsorship for each event, for a total of NT$12 million. His support laid the foundation for the continued development of the Taiwan Tour. This year, he remains the title sponsor with the same pattern and amount, but has added one more tournament compared to last year, bringing the total to eight events. This contribution has helped increase the total number of tournaments for the TPGA Tour to 16 this season.

The Chau-Shi Series has introduced a special “Prize Money Leader” award. The player who leads the prize money rankings across this year's eight tournaments will receive an additional NT$200,000, sponsored by Mr. Kuo-Erh Lin, Chairman of Honlin Construction Co., Ltd. The winner will also secure a spot to compete in the following year's Mercuries Taiwan Masters.

The opening tournament brings together a strong field of elite domestic players, with nearly all of the top 60 from last year's total prize money rankings in attendance. Among the participants are the top 10 players from last year's Taiwan Tour money list, including 2022 and 2023 TPGA Tour Money List champion Shih-Chang Chan, Chau-Shi Series Money List champion Chien-Yao Hung, and ThreeBond TPGA Challenge Tour Money List champion Fu-Tung Tseng. Additionally, the tournament features top-ranked players such as third-ranked Yung-Hua Liu, fourth-ranked Wei-Lun Chang, fifth-ranked Wei-Chih Lu, sixth-ranked Kai-Jen Tsai, seventh-ranked Yen-Hung Liu, eighth-ranked Huan-Jyun Liao, ninth-ranked Chieh-Po Lee, and tenth-ranked Wei-Hsuan Wang. The event promises thrilling matchups and exceptional performances!

Foreign players add strong competition to the field, especially from Thailand. Last year's three TPGA Tour champions - Poom Saksansin, winner of the Yeangder TPC Championship; Warun Leamgaew, champion of the Ding Bon Elite Invitation; and Suteepat Prateeptienchai, winner of the Taiwan Glass Taifong Open - will all be competing. Thai golfer Chapchai Nirat, a five-time winner on the Asian Tour, is also in the mix.

After two rounds of play, the top 50 players with the lowest total scores will advance to the final two rounds. The champion will receive NT$500,000, and the runner-up will be awarded NT$250,000.
