CWTC Inaugurates Its New Manufacturing Plant

Issued by: Chang Wah Technology Co., Ltd.
Issued on: May 19, 2023

  • Chang Wah Technology Co., Ltd. (CWTC*, 6548.tw) held an opening ceremony for its new plant on May 19. The new plant is CWTC's fourth and the largest plant in Taiwan, expecting to be the key driver of growth momentum for the next three years. It is named "Furuko Noboru Building" to commemorate Noboru Furuko, the former director of Sumitomo Metal Mining Singapore Pte. Ltd.
CWTC expanded its production capacity in Taiwan in response to the government's reshoring investment policy in 2019 and invested NT$3 billion for a new manufacturing plant in Kaohsiung Nanzih Technology Industrial Park. The plant was completed and officially open in May 2023. This is the first self-built manufacturing plant in the history of CWE Group. It is a seven-story building with one basement level, housing brand-new etching and electroplating production lines. At present, there are three etching lines and three electroplating lines installed to meet the demand for aQFN, high-reliability lead frames for wide bandgap semiconductors and lead frames for PMMS (Pre-Mold Metal Substrate) with Mini LED backlight units. We may install additional electroplating and etching equipment as well as relevant facilities to capture market growth momentum in the future.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Chairman Canon Huang and President Chuen-Sing Hung. In his speech, Chairman Canon Huang pointed out that this was the first self-built manufacturing plant in over 30 years of CWE Group  s history, marking an important milestone for the Group. Looking back on his entrepreneurial journey, he came to realize that "Gratitude, Responsibility, Cherishing, and Contribution" best described and summed up the years. He also made a special mention to Noboru Furuko, the former director of Sumitomo Metal Mining Singapore Pte. Ltd., whose trust and assistance helped CWE with securing the agency right for Sumitomo's lead frames at the early stage of the Company, laying the groundwork for CWE's crucial role in the agency of semiconductor packaging materials and CWTC's leading position in the field of IC lead frames at subsequent periods. Mr. Furuko passed away in April 2020, and due to the pandemic, Chairman Huang was unable to go to Japan and pay his respects in person. Therefore, the new building is named Furuko Noboru Building as a tribute for his support and mentorship to CWE Group in the early days.

President Chuen-Sing Hung stated in his speech that in addition to lithography, etching and electroplating equipment, the new plant will adopt the first smart, unmanned CNC profile grinder in Taiwan to enhance precision machining technology and production efficiency for high-standard products of the Group. Furthermore, CWTC has four manufacturing plants in Kaohsiung Nanzih Technology Industrial Park, equipped for complete lead frame production lines, including stamping, lithography, etching, electroplating, dicing, automated intelligent inspection, and Pre-Mold technology. These plants produce products ranging from traditional to high-value-added ones, fulfilling customers' demand for mid-to-high-end IC and LED packaging applications.

CWTC has been committed to the Group's ESG policy and is included in the TPEx ESG 30 Index at the end of April for its outstanding ESG performance. It will adhere to its policies of talent cultivation, customer service, social contribution, and protection of shareholders' rights and interests and strive for sustainable growth and success.
